1ST Round Games
MARCH 3RD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SENATORS 10 BLACKHAWKS 1

The Senators showed why they finished in first during the regular season by putting on a real scoring show against the Blackhawks. Rookie Corey Turner had four goals and an assist to lead the attack. Lauren Kirwin got credit for two goals( although the first one was a deflection off her leg of a hard Devin Greenfield shot). Other goal scorers for the Sens were Jordan Jenkins, Gunner Tobias, Austin Tobias, and Nick Iszler. The lone Blackhawk goal was scored by Austin Rood.

BLUES 3 MAPLE LEAFS 2

After a scoreless first period the Leafs took the lead ½ way through the second on a hard shot by Donald Hampton. The Blues were able to tie it up with just seconds to go in the same period on a slick goal by rookie Jacob Gardner who walked out front after beating the defense in the corner. The Blues took the lead early in the third on a hard shooting Taylor Goodnoe goal, but with 3:22 left to play Jon Anders tied it up for the Maple Leafs. Less than 30 seconds later however Kyle Spencer got the winner for the Blues when he sent a hard smash into the top of the net after stopping a defense clearing pass out near the center line.

MARCH 4TH----------------------------------------------------------------------

RED WINGS 3 RANGERS 0

The Red Wings jumped out to a two goal lead in the first on goals by Tyler Hickey and Chris Pierce and also picked up a power play tally by Slade Meade in the third period. Goalie Matt Christianson got the only shutout of the playoff first round by making several good saves on Ranger shooters, although the Wing D had another good game.

BRUINS 3 Northstars 2

The Bruins had three goals in the first period and had to make that stand up as Northstars goalie Nick Matheson was perfect the last two periods making some really good saves as the Bruins pressed to get more. Alivia Johncock scored the first goal by one timing a long pass from defenseman Chantz McManamey at 8:35 of the first, but Garret Mater smashed one in for the Northstars to tie the game at the ½ way mark of that period. The Bruins next got a power play goal from Shilo Scott on a scramble in front of the Northstar net. Seconds later Harlee Houghton found the back of the Star’s net on a great pass from Johncock. In the third Garret Mater scored again for the Northstars, but even with pulling their goalie in the last 48 seconds they weren’t able to come up with a third on Bruin goalie Jesse Powers.

SEMI-FINALS
MARCH 6TH
SENATORS 6 BRUINS 3

The Bruins had the Senators worried after defenseman Chantz MacManamey scored a goal in the first period and then assisted on goals by Micah Weatherwax and Alivia Johncock. The Senators were able to get one in the first by rookie Jordan Jenkins, but Bruin goalie Jesse Powers made several good stops to keep the Bruin lead. It was late in the second period before the Senators were able to get goals by Josh Wenger and Nick Izler to tie it up. In the third period a Lauren Kirwin goal was disallowed as a roughing penalty was called on the play, but Cody Dixon scored what turned out to be the game winner with 3:21 remaining. Nick Iszler went on to get the Senators a couple of insurance goals to complete a hat trick.

RED WINGS 2 BLUES 1

The “Cinderella” team of the playoffs, the Blues finally had the clock strike midnight, but only after going into overtime. The Blues, who had finished the season in 7th place, had upset the 2nd place Maple Leafs to get to the Semi-Finals where the 3rd place Red Wings found they were in for a real game. The Blues took a one goal lead in the first period on a goal by rookie Luke Cosgrove( he hadn’t scored during the regular season). Late in the second period the Wing’s Slade Meade tied it up with a top shelf shot on a nice pass from Tyler Hickey, but neither team was able to score in the third period so the game went to overtime. Both teams had a few chances in OT , but Red Wing rookie Wyatt Ledford gave them the victory with only 3:09 left in the extra period. Both the winning goalie Christianson and the Blue’s man in net Dale Laverty had an excellent night

RED WINGS 5 SENATORS 0
The Red Wings won the 2006 Final game with a combination of great defense, offense, and goaltending. The Wing's defense kept the puck in the Senators end much of the first period. The Red Wing's first goal was scored by Matt Christianson on a hard shot with 1:21 left in that period. In the second period the Senators went on a powerplay only to have the Wing's Slade Meade score a shorthanded tally. The Senators did generate some offensive pressure in both the second and third period only to have Red Wing goalie Anthony Christianson (the MVP of this year's playoff) stop them each time. In the third period the Wings got a goal by Tyler Hickey and then two more by Slade Meade for his hat trick.
